Law question regards to leasing contracts?

Me and some friends recently signed a lease for an apartment and now its a big mistake. First we each were given a lease to sign but NOT to have or read. When I told the manager I wanted to read it myself he insisted he paraphrase it because he read it "a million times". I didnt think he would screw us over so we let him tell us. He ended up not telling us EVERYTHING on the contract nor did he EVER give us a copy of the lease. Now that we are here we see we sold our souls to the devil. He told us we couldnt get out our lease not even if we died, went into a coma, got deported, or anything. When we saw our apartment condition it was horrible. Several things are broken, there is old trash every wjere, the caprts and walls are disgustingly dirty. Its fross. In the contract it.says they d not have to.vlean ir repair our apartment. He never told us this. They gave us mailboxes but said its not up to them to make sure our mail is not stolen and if it is then oh well. Is there anything we can do?
